Community, Caring, and Sharing
As the weather warms and the end of the pandemic is within sight, we are excited to gather as a large group soon! The response to our upcoming outdoor Happy Hour Fiesta on May 4th has been very enthusiastic, and I am happy to announce that we are nearly at capacity for the event. If you have been on the fence about sending your RSVP, please do so soon.
Since we weren’t able to gather this past year, our focus was on our charitable giving. We are very proud that since the pandemic lockdown began in March 2020, the Women’s Network has given $11,000 to eight different charities! At the close of our previous season, under the leadership of Becky Steele, we donated a total of $5,000 to BEAM, Feeding NE Florida, and Catholic Charities Food Pantry. This season we’ve gifted $6,000 in total to The Sanctuary of NE Florida, Inspire to Rise, Children’s Home Society, Mission House, and Rethreaded. Thank you again to all of our members who donated their annual dues!
This upcoming season, in addition to the customary charitable giving, our primary focus will be on our Clubs and having plenty of fun events for all of our members!
Speaking of Clubs, we are happy to announce that we have a new Club next season! The Photography Club will be chaired by our new member, Danielle Ramey. Danielle is a professional photographer and is excited to show our members how to get the most out of their cameras and improve their photography skills. I’ve already signed up and can’t wait for the first event! Thank you, Danielle, for chairing this new club.
I'm happy to announce that we have a new Member Spotlight! Thank you to Susan Dienes for writing this wonderful piece on Joy Hardaker, and thank you, Joy, for sharing your life with us.
As I mentioned in our previous newsletter, the Board has decided to return to aligning our membership year with our fiscal year (June 1-May 31). To make this revision to our By-Laws, your vote will be needed. Since we will not have our Annual Meeting at our Spring Dinner this year, an email will be sent to all members in May to approve this change. We will also need your approval for the Slate of Officers for our Executive Committee. If you are interested in being on the Executive Committee, please see the graphic above for additional information. This information is also in our newsletter and our Facebook page.
I look forward to seeing you all soon. Have a Happy Spring!
President, Women’s Network of JGCC
The Women's Network of Jacksonville Golf & Country Club was formed in 1992 by a small group of women who wanted to help their new neighbors feel welcome. Our members enjoy numerous clubs that offer something for a variety of interests. We also develop projects to improve our own neighborhood and contribute to many charities in the greater Jacksonville community.
From our spirited Book Club discussions to the competitive Trivia Club outings, there is certainly a club that will be of interest to you. Several of our clubs have been in place for years and others just started. We strive to keep our clubs reflective of the interests and demographics across our membership. We hope we have something for you, and we’re always open to new suggestions!
When you look around our beautiful neighborhood, you see many improvements that were provided by the Women's Network. From the lighted signs at both gate entrances to the impressive fountain on the 18th hole, you see the contributions from the Women’s Network.
Additionally, across the greater Jacksonville area, we are active participants in charitable giving supporting many organizations. These activities include building Habitat for Humanity homes, hosting collegiate athletes, contributing to cancer research, and helping schools in need. We believe our focus on issues that are important to women and families help make a difference in our community.
If you're new to the neighborhood and want to make new friends, please consider joining the Women's Network. Even if you've lived in the neighborhood for years or used to be a member, we'd love to have you back!
