There's no requirement to join a club, but it is an excellent opportunity to meet some wonderful friends.
The Book Club is a popular interest group that meets the fourth Wednesday of the month. There are two meetings most of the months from August through May. This is to accommodate the large number of women in our group who love to read. Members may choose to attend the morning discussion at 10:30 am at the JGCC Clubhouse or the evening session at 7:30 pm. The evening discussion is held at a member's home.
We do not meet in November, but we do hold an early December meeting that is a multi-book discussion and holiday event all rolled into one. In December, we only have an evening meeting and enjoy appetizers, wine and dessert potluck as well as a “Literary Potluck", where members share a favorite book with the rest of the group. These book recommendations are later compiled into a list that is sent to all members. That evening we also collect new books as part of the Women’s Network Toy & Book Drive for Wolfson's Children Hospital.
The May meeting is also an evening only event and no book is discussed. It serves as a wrap up for our year and gives our members another opportunity to socialize with each other. Prior to that meeting, we take nominations for the next season’s books to be read and vote online to determine the next year’s reading list. The results of the vote are announced at that meeting and posted in the Women's Network newsletter.
If you would like to join or have any questions, please contact Teresa or Kathleen.
The Couples Brides Club plays on the first Saturday of each month, September through May, in the banquet room at our club. We presently have 8 couples therefore, we will have four tables. We have dinner at the club promptly at 5:00 pm with play beginning promptly at 6:00 pm. We adjourn at 9:00 pm. Coffee and snacks are served throughout the evening play. Everyone observes social distancing, and wearing our masks is mandatory at this time.
The game played is "party bridge," with prizes going to the top three scores for the evening. It is a joyful evening of social activity and play. If you are interested in learning more about the Couples Bridge Club, please contact Bonnie or Marcella. We are always happy to have new couples join our group.
The Culinary Pleasures Club is a great way to meet neighbors and friends, new and familiar, while enjoying interesting foods and beverages. You don’t have to be a chef to participate either!
Each month members are assigned to one of several hosts who select the menu and distribute the recipes for the evening. Each guest will prepare one of the items from the menu and bring the beverage of their choice.
Additionally, three to four times a year, we have larger group parties for which each person or couple attending just brings an appetizer or a dessert along with their favorite beverage.
We meet on the 3rd Saturday of every month from September through May.
The Just for Fun Club plans a monthly activity for its members. The activities and day of the week for get-togethers vary from month to month. For example, some months, the club takes trips to museums, plays, historical sites; other times, they participate in crafts or classes. An example of a previous activity is a visit to the St. Augustine lighthouse to see the sunset and the moonrise at the same time. In addition, the group has taken jewelry making classes, dance classes, and cooking classes. The club often ends a morning outing with lunch at a local restaurant.
The Just for Fun Club has been on hiatus for several years. Initially, for lack of a chairwoman and recently because of Covid-19. This year the club is resuming with a slightly different structure. Instead of one person picking the venue and arranging everything, the club will have a monthly volunteer who will select an activity, run it by the club chairwoman, and then contact the vendor to determine the details of the visit or class. Once a venue and date are selected, the chairwoman will send an Evite to the club members. Club members then respond as to whether they would like to participate.
If you enjoy seeing the many things the greater Jacksonville area offers, the Just for Fun Club is a perfect fit for you.
If you have questions about the club or would like to volunteer to arrange an activity, please contact MaryAnn Healey.
Our group is for those who want to sample the cuisine of established and new restaurants in the Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra area, while socializing with women from the community.
We email an Evite to all luncheon club members. There are typically 10 to 20 attendees each month. We order off the regular menu and receive individual checks, which greatly simplifies the whole process.
It’s a wonderful way to explore the local dining scene while sharing lunch with friends, old and new. Hope you can join us.
Enjoy a monthly movie with this group of Network members - from romance to comedy and drama. We vary the days of the week and times so whether you drive carpool, play tennis, or attend a regular exercise class, there will be Reel Club movie that works for you.
There's a casual lunch before or after the movie, too, for catching up with friends and making new ones. Last minute changes in your schedule? No worries. This is the easiest, most flexible club - no hosting, no reservations. Just big screen fun with friends.
The TGIF Club gathers once a month at a members home to socialize and reconnect. This is a great way to visit and mingle with spouses, longtime friends, and neighbors. It is also fun to meet new members and introduce them to one another.
Guests are asked to bring an appetizer, dessert, or salad to share as well as your own glass and a favorite beverage.
You are welcome to attend this event as a guest, too! Please contact Gayle to find out when the next TGIF event is scheduled.
As a member of the Women's Network, you are essentially a member of the Caring Committee. We need our members to be the eyes and ears of this committee. If you know of a WN member going through a difficult time, please reach out to Diana or Amy.
Maybe it's the birth of a child, surgery, the loss of a family member, or some other struggle. Whether it's a card, flowers, or meal preparation, we are here to support our neighbors.
